28 Neutral Palette: Swatches and review
Happy Halloween everyone! If you expected some bloody tutorial today, my apologies, this time I'm going to show the 28 Neutral palette ;) This one comes from the same seller as my Metallic Stones palette and costs around 11 dollars. The price is definitely good for your budget, but how good are those 28 eyeshadows?
Here are all the colours, I made 4 groups again for the swatching. So far so good, I noticed some promising highlighters, some nice taupe colours (I love taupes) and the basic white and black. I decided to make dry swatches again, just like I did with my other 28 palette. Below are the results!
My first thought? 'Oh...' followed by 'This is kinda disappointing.' The first 5 colours have very weak pigmentation and the last two are so-so. In case you're thinking 'Ah, but that's probably just one swipe!' then errmm...no, more like 5 :p
The second row isn't much better, in my eyes they all lack some pigmentation. When I look at the colours I don't feel like playing around with them. I know that they look better with a base/primer or applied wet, but dry they are not worth a rave.
But, ladies and gentlemen, row 3 has some pigmentation! Especially number 5 is really good, the last two are nice as well. I'm not excited about the other shades, but still happy that some colours are worth the money.
Row number 4 is okay, I like the white and the black shade and the other colours show up a bit better on the skin than most of the others. My conclusion? You get what you pay for, the palette is cheap but that means the pigmentation isn't that great. Of course, there are a few nice shades in this palette but overall I expected much more from a semi-popular palette like this one. Is it a waste of money? In my case it isn't because I'm sure that I'll still be using this sometimes, the eyeshadows still blend well and they are a bit buildable. However, if you want some well pigmented neutral shades I wouldn't go for this one.

Swatches: Essence We Saw It First collection
I got these cuties from the mailman today, Helena sent them to me because I won her Fall giveaway ;) She even added some samples, so if you don't know the sweet girl yet you definitely have to visit her blog! I'm going to swatch the nail polishes today and later I'm going to compare the matt top coat to the other one I own.
Here are the colours, a dark grey with the name 'Movie star', a dark brown colour with multiple shimmer (pink and green I believe) with the name 'Absolutely stylish', a Shrek (yellow green) colour 'Lime up!' and last but not least: a peachy colour with some golden shimmer called 'What do you think?' Well, I think that they are all lovely!
I don't own any similar colours, so I'm really happy with all of them. For fall, the grey and brown colour are really nice and easy to match with my outfits. Movie Star, the grey one, is probably my favourite :) I also love peachy shades and even Lime up! is a crazy colour I'd happily wear when I want something different on my nails.Do you own any of them? If you're looking for some nice fall colours, I suggest taking a look at Movie Star and Absolutely Stylish!

Metallic Stones palette: review and swatches
Today I have something in store for the 'budget-proof' lovers, the Metallic Stones (also known as the Ultra Glamour) palette! This palette contains 28 shimmer eyeshadows, it goes from a little bit of shimmer to the ultra shimmer and metallic looking colours. The colours are mainly purples and neutrals and they come in a palette that's just slightly smaller than an 88 palette. You can find it on Ebay for 9,78 dollars (price and shipping), which is a great bargain! You can find the seller I got it from here. The palette got here in 8 days and was VERY well packaged, way better than my 88 palette from Coastal Scents was.
The pans have a nice size and the palette feels just as sturdy as the other ones I own. I was surprised at first because in stead of the plastic I'm used to some sort of cardboard is holding the eyeshadows together, but it doesn't look like it's going to fall out or tear (it might get dirty eventually, but I don't know that for sure yet). But let's move on to the swatches! I created four little groups for the swatches to make things a bit easier. All of the swatches are dry, I didn't use a base, primer, water or something else to make the colours look more pigmented. If you want a closer view, you can click on the pictures:

This is the first group, a couple of very nice neutral shades (and highlighters?). You can really see the difference between the subtle and ultra shimmer colours here. 1, 3 and 4 are my favourites.
This is the second group, some of the colours are pretty similar (9, 10 and 13). My favourites are 11, 13 and 14.
Here are the swatches of the third group. The pigmentation of the 2 bottom rows was even better than the others, so I had a lot of fun swatching this! There's a nice silver, a gold, a black and a couple of very nice browns. I can't wait to use this for the holidays (I can't even pick my favourites, they are that pretty).
Last but not least, group number four! A couple of shimmery pastel colours. Luckily, the eyeshadows aren't as similar as the second group. 24, 25 and 27 are my favourites.
I took a picture after all the swatching to show that these eyeshadows are very soft and smooth, they don't crumle/cause a lot of fall-out which is something I love. I hate it when my eyeshadow gets everywhere, so I'm happy that these are nice to work with. I'm definitely satisfied with this palette! The pigmentation is nice, the price is awesome and the colours are very usable. If you like super bright colours or don't like to work with shimmery eyeshadows, this palette is probably not meant for you. But if you are looking for a cheap palette with some nicely pigmented eyeshadows, I would definitely recommend this one!

The 7 deadly sins: Pride and Anger
In case you want to use one of the 7 deadly sins as inspiration this Halloween, here I have Pride and Anger for you! (Although we look more like Moody & Clueless in the picture). We are basically wearing the same kind of look, we just used different colours to match our sin. So in case you want to go for an other sin you could use this as well :) Let's take a closer look at the looks:
Here we have me as Pride/Vanity, the 'mother' of all sins (you can click on the picture for a larger version). The make-up is mainly purple with a little bit of black. At the end of this post I'll show better pictures of the eye looks.
And here we have my younger sister as Anger/Wrath. She combined the red colours with some gold. It would probably work out for the sin Lust as well, perhaps with some pink in stead of the gold.
I have a purple eyeshadow all over the lid and black up till the brow, in stead of blending everything I left things looking messy because it looked nice with the feathers. I glued the feathers onto my skin (right above the brow) with a cheap glue for false eye lashes. My sister applied a gold coloured eyeshadow on her eyelid and the inner corner of her eye, the rest of her eye is all red (unlike me she did blend everything). And that's all! We kinda felt like fantasy characters walking around like that, I'm glad the mailman didn't stop by at the time because I doubt I'd have opened the door :P

Out of milk!
The jumbo eye pencil in the colour 'Milk' is one of my favourite products. It works great as a base and highlighter, although I mainly use it as a base for my make-up and swatches. That means that I use it a lot, so I knew sooner or later...it would need a bit of help. Some people depot these pencils, others sharpen them. Depotting them takes more effort but sharpening wastes some of the product. Now I'm really not a fan of wasting product, although depotting wasn't really an option to me. When I depotted my old base it started to dry out quickly, so I was worried about something like that happening again. I like the pencil to stay a pencil, so I decided to buy a big sharperner for it...
Thankfully, I didn't have to waste that much product. And even though it's creamy, it was pretty easy to sharpen as well. If you do have some trouble with it, you could always freeze the pencil until it becomes harder and try again. If you'd prefer to have it in a pot, you can go to youtube and search for some 'depot nyx milk' videos :)
And the milk is back in stock ;) I'm really happy to have my favourite base back. Some people say these pencils crease horribly, but I never experienced that with Milk (my pencil in Black bean does crease a lot though). Just use a thin layer and blend it well. So, if you're looking for a affordable base (or highlighter perhaps) this one is the one I'd recommend. It's very pigmented, easy to throw into your bag and does its job well. I'm not a fan of Black bean because it does crease when I use it and I don't own any of the other jumbo pencils, but Milk gets an A+.

Halloween look: Bang Bang (bullet wound tutorial)
It's time for a new Halloween look! The look I'm going to show today is a bit of a 'dead girl/zombie' look, I just wanted to do something with a bullet wound. It was my first time trying to create one, but I think that I did a pretty good job! I'm going to show a couple of pictures first and then I'll explain how you can make a bullet wound with a simple piece of tape.
This still looks pretty normal, if you want to be some murdered housewife for Halloween it would be perfect. Shortly before I wanted to take the pictures my camera died, so I even went grocery shopping like that. (Unfortunately my mum made me wear an ugly hat).
To make it a bit more scary/zombie ish, just add a mix of grey/purple/blue colours to your face. You can add concealer to your lips to make them stand out less and apply some grey eyeshadow on top. Yeah...I never looked that bad in my life.
This is the eye look, just simple white eyeshadow, some eyeliner and a couple of not too dramatic false eyelashes. But the make-up would be up to you, you'll be dead at the end of your make-up routine anyway ;)
Now it's time for the magic. To create a bullet wound like I did, you will need a piece of double sided tape, cut a circle and make sure it's not too thick. When you're done with that, stick it on your skin.
The pictures aren't awesome quality because I took them with my webcam during a rainy day, but with the steps below you should be fine:1: Apply your foundation over the tape.
2: Use a black eyeliner to make a dark, round shaped mark in the middle.
3: Take a brown eyeshadow and go around the edges of the tape, you want to create a bit of a shadow around the wound.
4: Take a red eyeshadow and use this to blend the brown a little, the red will make your skin look irritated.
5 & 6: Last but not least, grab a red nail polish and apply a little drop in the black area (be careful not to get it on your skin). When you want to remove the bullet wound, all you have to do is gently pull the tape off.
And that's the end of my third Halloween look :) This one was extremely fun to do, I have never seen my family so freaked out >.>

Feel Good nail art
It's been raining like crazy lately, so I wanted to 'happify' my nails a bit to pretend it's all bright and sunny outside ;) I mixed a love and nature theme together and this is what I got:

The last one is with flash :) I just noticed that my thumb isn't in the picture, but I only have 3 little hearts on that one. I'm still not sure if I like it or not (might be the green with pink combo that's looking weird to me) but looking at my nails makes me smile so I say mission accomplished! If the Fall weather is making you feel down, grab a couple of nail polishes and get crazy with the flowers and smiley faces :) During those gloomy days, I always find nail painting the best therapy.

Lash glue battle! DUO vs Eye Charm
I had no idea what kind of lash glue to buy myself, so I decided to get two different ones. The first one is the well known Duo Eyelash Adhesive in white/clear and the second one is a very cheap alternative called Eye Charm. I purchased both of them on Ebay a couple of weeks ago. Here's a closer look at them:
Duo comes in a little tube (7g) and a lot of people call it the best lash glue out there. It's waterproof, dries invisibly and comes with the instructions and everything on the box. I paid 9 dollars for it. They don't sell it in the stores where I live, but normally you pay around 8 dollars (for 14g) at a MAC counter.
Eye Charm can be used as a glue for double eyelids and false eyelashes. It comes with something called the 'Y' stick which is actually pretty useful to move false eyelashes around. It cost me 1,84 dollars which is definitely not expensive. You get 8ml of product.
What I like about Eye Charm, is that it comes with a little handy brush. Duo comes in a tube and if you're not paying attention you easily squeeze too much product out. With the little Eye Charm brush you can easily apply the glue and even do some touch ups without getting glue everywhere.
Now it's time for the most important part: how good is the glue? For that I needed some eyelashes, I applied them at 2 pm and took them off again at 11 pm. Personally, I was pretty surprised ;)
I didn't have any problems with applying the lashes. Duo was just a tiny bit harder to work with because you have to work with a tube. The Eye Charm glue smelled a bit weird at first but after a minute the smell disappeared. I was satisfied with both!
And here we are, 9 hours later. This is the 'Duo' eye. The first picture shows the condition of the lashes, you can't really see but they were a bit loose, so in the second picture I used my finger to lift them a little and show it better. The bit on the outer corner was still perfectly in place.
And here we have Eye Charm. It was the same story with this one, the outer corner was fine but the other side started to get loose. I was surprised because I had high expectations of Duo (the lash glue favourite of many) and pretty low expectations of this one (the super cheap ebay glue). In the end, they worked exactly the same for me!
Eye Charm was a bit easier to remove than Duo, so I do believe that Duo is a stronger kind of glue. But do I think that it's super amazing compared to a cheaper version? Not really. It might be a bit hard to see in the picture, but Duo leaves a lot of residue behind. That means extra cleaning if you want to use your lashes again. I use my false eyelashes for make-up looks so I want a glue that's easy to work with, lasts long enough for some pictures and is easy to remove. In my case, Eye Charm would work just as good as Duo, minus struggling with a tube and the residue. Conclusion: If you are going to wear you false eyelashes outside and want something you can count on Duo is a good choice. It's a stronger glue than Eye Charm and you can get it in different formulas (clear or dark etc.). If you only use your lashes indoors or want something cheaper, Eye Charm is worth a try. The brush is nice to work with and great for touch ups during the day.

Halloween look: Evil Lolita
Ready for another Halloween look? This one is inspired by Lolita fashion, which means that you'll look a bit like a porcelain doll. The make-up is very simple, you start off with some foundation to get flawless pale skin. After that I only used some black eyeliner (to make the eyes look bigger), black lipstick and a very tiny bit of blush. I wanted to keep the look clean and simple, we don't want to look sexy, we want to look like we've been feeding on someone.
That's how the make-up looks when you leave the lipstick nice and neat. You could wear it like this if freaky isn't your thing. For this look you'll definitely need some headwear, I picked a flower but you could also go for a little hat, ribbon etc.
If you do want to get evil and freaky, you can smear the lipstick and focus on the corners of your mouth to make it look wider. It's realy that easy, pair it up with some cute black clothing and a wig and you're done!
Don't forget to replace colourful nail polish with something black and sinister ;) Oh and if you're too old for some 'trick or treat-ing', bring snacks with you!
